Prayer of Intercession
Sunday, 7 March, 2010
Bruce Van Voorhis

We pray for the women and men who are activists, priests and leaders who promote and seek a violence-free environment within our homes, churches and society. We lift up to you such courageous women as Aung San Suu Kyi of Burma who have faced hardships and repression for years in their quest for human rights and democracy. We remember as well today women whose huge heart has reached out to serve humanity, like the example set by Mother Teresa. Let God empower them and strengthen their ongoing work to restore peace and justice. Amen.

For the World
Our loving and compassionate God, giver of peace and justice! We as a faith community seek your wisdom and guidance, while we bring the concerns of the people before you. God we specially pray for the people in Chile, who have experienced a devastated earthquake recently. Many people are being killed, and the survivors are terrified and traumatized as their world continues to shake. God we uphold the people who have lost their loved ones, console them God in the time of crisis. We also pray for the people in those countries where a Tsunami warning is issued. we continue to remember the people in Haiti, as they struggle to rebuild their homes and lives after the earthquake. Intervene in their lives and give them the much needed strength and support at this time.

God we pray for the political leaders and decision makers of India and Pakistan, as they engage in peace talk. You guide them God with your wisdom to make right decisions for the people to experience peace and harmony in these two countries.

God we also pray for the leaders in the Thai government as they are in the process of deporting the vulnerable refugees and migrant workers in the name of undocumented migrants. Transform their minds and hearts oh God to respect human beings as your gift. We pray for the people, NGOs, civil societies who are working to stop this crackdown - strengthen them and empower them to continue their work. God we uphold the lives of the refugees and Migrant workers around the world, especially in Thailand. Protect them God, as their lives are in threat in Thailand and also in their home countries.

God we continue to pray for the release of Necta’s uncle and the 42 health workers who are imprisoned for false charges in the Philippines. God let the leaders in the government realise their mistakes what they have done for these innocent health workers, so that justice can prevail. God provide the much needed strength and support to the 43 health workers and especially to their family members who are going through a very difficult time.

God we pray for the religious harmony in India as the Christian community continue to be persecuted for the political reasons.

God we pray for the people in Hong Kong who are struggling to live a decent life as the prices of basic needs is increasing rapidly. God help the political leaders to come up with an inclusive plan where everyone can experience life in dignity.
