Prayer of Intercession

21 August 2022

Prepared by ChanBengSeng

Let us join our hearts and minds in praying for our community and those in need in the world.

Creator God,

you created beautiful world and entrusted it to us for our sustenance and care. We confess that we have not been good stewards of your creation. Many people are suffering from drought, bushfires, and heavy rain or flooding in different parts of the world because of climate change caused by our irresponsible behaviour and actions. We remember those who lost loved ones, property and livelihood. We pray for special protection for those who risk their lives to save the victims, attend to the needs of survivors, and deliver relief and rescue operations. Help us stop global warming by living responsibly and sustainably.

Lord in your Mercy: Hear our prayer.

Holy God,

it is your will that all creatures and people live in peace and harmony with each other. We confess that our arrogance and thirst for power have undermined your will for peace.  We pray people who have been displaced from their homes due to acts of terrorism, war, and persecution. We pray for their safety and wellbeing. Grant governments, community and religious leaders the wisdom seek the peaceful path and to work for the wellbeing of all.

Lord in your Mercy: Hear our prayer.

Gracious God,

the number of COVID cases in HK and around the world continues to remain high despite various preventive measures taken. The current variants seem to be milder but more infectious. We pray for special protection for those who are more vulnerable to infection -- we remember especially the frontline workers, the elderly and those with existing health complications.

Lord in your Mercy: Hear our prayer.

Merciful God,

we lift up to you loved ones in our community who are unwell.

We pray for the mothers of Alex Melwani, Helen Lee and Florence Tse, for Mrs Samuel, Jenny Alegre, Hend, Jeanette Lee, Rachel Perry, Ng Kam Lee, Raymond Lau, Chung Yoke Chin, Chui, Ramon Bultron, Kevin Ng, Lucy Lim and Stella Chan. We remember those caring for loved ones at home and in care facilities. May your healing hands touch them through those attending to their needs.

We also pray for Kulwinder who is mourning the loss of her sister in India. We pray your love will comfort her during this time of loss.

Lord in your Mercy: Hear our prayer.

Loving God,

we pray for our pastors and church council as they strive to serve you through the different ministries o the church. Grant them clear vision as they lead the congregation to be the church you want us to be. May your congregation grow in wisdom and unity as we bear witness to your love for the under privileged communities in Hong Kong.

Lord in your Mercy: Hear our prayer.

Mighty God,

we pray for the people and churches in Liberia and Sierra Leone. We are thankful to learn of the diverse ethnic and religious groups who long have lived together in peace and harmony, especially the Muslims and Christians in Sierra Leone. Guide the leaders of their governments to work for equality and justice, by upholding the rights, welfare and common good of their people.

Lord in your Mercy: Hear our prayer.

Faithful God,

thank you for being ever present in our lives. May we live each day in your presence, discovering you in prayer and worship, through your creation, and in the dignity of every person we meet.

We pray all these in the name of Christ Jesus who taught us to pray (saying the Lord’s Prayer according to our chosen language) –

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

your kindom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For the kindom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

Prayer of Intercession

07 August 2022

Prepared by Tory Caplan

Ninth Sunday of Pentecost

In the power of the Spirit and in union with Christ, let us pray to the Father.  As we pray, after I say “God in your mercy”, please respond, “Hear our prayer.”

Almighty Creator God

You gave us a beautiful planet with enough to satisfy the needs of every living creature, a creation to rejoice in. But through foolishness, greed and unjust systems, we abuse it and each other. Throughout the world we see environmental degradation and disasters: poisoned air, water, and soil; drought and wildfires, storms and floods.

Bless our human efforts towards wisdom and sustainability: individual, group, and government.

God, in your mercy

hear our prayer

God of Justice and Peace

We pray for the many places in this world where there is civil unrest, war, or fear of war. We especially pray for the victims of the war in Ukraine, in Yemen, and all others who suffer in from human-made violence and injustice.

Direct our community and every nation, in the ways of justice and of peace; that we may honor one another, and seek the common good

God, in your mercy

hear our prayer

God the Host and Protector

Protect all travellers and migrants in their journeys and their resting: may they find peace and comfort and friends along the way. We also pray for those who acts as hosts and helpers for all visitors, travellers, refugees, and migrants.

God, in your mercy

hear our prayer

God of Abundance and Sufficiency

Awaken us and enlighten us. Help us to experience your loving grace and overcome our fear of “not enough” ; and put aside our selfish, lazy, jealous, gluttonous, angry ways.  Through your abounding grace, help us to  learn to treasure you and your kingdom over all transient and worldly things.

God, in your mercy

hear our prayer

Incarnate God, companion of all who suffer:

Look after people in danger, sorrow, or any kind of trouble: the sick, the lonely, the abused, the addicted, the grieving, the homeless, the imprisoned, the poor, the oppressed, and people who feel displaced in life.

Strengthen them in their hours of need. Give them courage and hope in their troubles; relieve and protect them, and bring the joy of your salvation

God, in your mercy

hear our prayer

Triune God, who we meet in community,

Please also bless and strengthen those providing care for loved ones at home and in care facilities.
