Prayer of Intercession

23 October 2022

Prepared by Eva Chaves Apin

Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost

As we pray the people’s prayer. May I invite you to respond God hear our prayer, lead us to new life after every prayer. Let us pray.

O God the creator, we failed to be responsible stewards of your creation. We ignore the groaning of your creation suffering from massive environmental destruction and development aggression. In exchange for profit over the well-being of humanity and of the environment. Now the threat of climate is knocking at our door causing a greater risk to human lives and of the whole creation. Lord, forgive us for all we have done to your wonderful creation. Empower us to make a stand in protecting the enviroment and upholding the integrity your creation. God hear our prayer, lead us to new life.

O God of life and history. We know very well that you through your Son Jesus Christ became a migrant and refugee. We pray, O God for millions of people forced to leave their families and homeland like in Venezuela and in many developing countries marred with poverty, unemployment, and political crises. In their aspiration to survive and find decent lives many of them become victims of abuse, exploitation, trafficking and modern slavery. We pray, O God, for their protection, for governments to address the root causes of forced and massive movement of people and for your church to be welcoming and stand in solidarity with migrants, refugees and other displaced people in their struggle for justice, human rights and decent work. God hear our prayer, lead us to new life.

O God of peace and reconciliation. We continue to pray for the just and peaceful settlement of Russian and Ukraine crisis. Today Russian forces have further disabled the power companies of Ukraine, causing the energy company to issue a directive to all to recharge and fill all appliances in preparation for further power outages. This will further intensify the conflict and further put the lives of Ukraine people to greater risks and danger as winter season approaches. May the Russian government and Ukraine government prioritize the lives and well-being of people and find a just and peaceful resolution of the conflict. God hear our prayer, lead us to new life.

O God of compassion and care. We pray for the family of nearly 100 Indonesian children whose death followed after they took an over the country medicine syrup and liquid. May their families found comfort and assurance amidst their mourning and sadness, and may the Indonesian government found the root-causes of this crisis and those behind the selling of these products be held accountable. God hear our prayer, lead us to new life.

O God that sustains us. We give thanks that the Public Transport Fare Subsidy Scheme have been extended for another six months amidst the skyrocketing of prices of basic commodities. This will be a big help to millions of ordinary people who rely to public transport in going to work every day. We pray, O God, that the Hong Kong government may implement economic assistance and relief that is truly inclusive and non-discriminatory. God hear our prayer, lead us to new life.

O God that leads us to recovery. We welcome the easing of public gathering from 4 people in a group to 12 people announced by the HK SAR government due to notable stability of COVID cases. Yet, the number of COVID cases remains high and the threat to be infected of corona virus remains. We continue to pray, O God that the corona virus affecting our lives, livelihood, health and human rights be finally eliminated and gone. God hear our prayer, lead us to new life.

O God of healing and mercy. We pray for healing and complete recovery of our sisters and brothers in KUC – the mothers of Alex Melwani, Helen Lee, Florence Tse and Chris

Wong, for Mrs Samuel, Anjenette, Jenny Alegre, Habib, Hend, Jeanette Lee, Ng

Kam Lee, Raymond Lau, Chui, Ramon Bultron, Lyn, Lucy Lim, Mercy, Poulis

Zaki, Saafa, Selvia and Stella Chan. We remember those caring for loved ones at

home and in care facilities. God hear our prayer, lead us to new life.

O God of diversity and unity. We lift in prayer the churches and people of all faiths in The Caribbean: Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Cuba, Curacao, Dominica,

Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Sint

Maarten, St Kitts-Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname,

Trinidad and Tobago. May their faith and witness continue to shine and give hope amidst hopelessness. God hear our prayer, lead us to new life.

As we end our prayer of the people. I invite you to pray Jesus’ Prayer. You may pray it in your own language. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Sisters and brothers, together as one, let us pray and praise God!

Eternal God, you are our rock, redeemer and maker of heaven and earth, you rule over all the nations. As we think of your unfailing, eternal, enduring love, we look forward to the day when we will worship you in eternity. Your throne will be surrounded by people from every tribe, tongue and nation, all testifying that you have remained faithful. We will all see that you have kept every single promise you made. We will all see your goodness and grace. We will all be transformed by your glory.

God, help us build a new world in the midst of the old. A world where all worker are valued. A world where those who clean houses are able to live in the houses of their own. A world where those who grow food and afford to eat their fill. We pray for the coming of a world where all workers everywhere share in the abundance that you have given us. We ask these things knowing that you give us the courage and strength to live out our faith in the workplace and in the marketplace, as well as in the sanctuary. Labouring God, as you labour with us, may we labour for you, ever committed to do your world in the world.

Almighty God , we thank and pray for your continued blessings in addressing the pandemic. The reduced numbers of infections in Hong Kong and other parts of the world is truly a blessing and we pray that your children will be totally free from this infections in the near future. We also pray for people and NGOs with kind heart in helping others. May you bless them.

We also pray for the migrant workers, refugees and diaspora who been facing the daily challenges of recognition, acceptance, protection, safety and survival in this world full of conflicts. In particular, we pray and thank you for the safety and recognition of the Venezuelan immigrants as they enter the United States as both countries of US and Mexico recently agreed to a plan that allows Venezuelan safe entry to the US.

We continue to pray for your divine intervention in the light of the conflict happening in Ukraine as well as threat imposed by Russia in neighbouring countries including US. We pray for their leaders to think more of the welfare of their people and may the torch of peace light upon them. Likewise, we pray for countries suffering human right violations, extra judicial killings, disappearances and other threat to life such as those experienced by people of Iran, Yemen, Syria, Philippines, among others. May the holy spirit strengthen their quest for justice and democracy and may genuine peace reign upon them as a nation.

Loving God, as we experience extreme weather conditions in many parts of the world, we pray for your continued guidance as we face the ever worsening climate change of our time and may we learn to be more resilient amidst the challenges. In particular we pray for the people of Nigeria, Philippines and countries in South and South East Asia, among others for their safety as they experienced the damages brought by recent environmental disasters.

We also pray for the victims and families of the recent violence that happened in Northern Thailand where 22 of 36 victims mostly children, lost their lives. We pray that they may find peace and comfort amidst the memories of such violence. We continue to pray for all the victims of violence.

We pray for the safety and prosperity of the people of Hong Kong. In particular, we pray for safety of the school children in Hong Kong especially those who were recently suspended for failure to attend the raising of the national flag. Likewise, we pray for the young people of Hong Kong who recently meted 3-years sentence in detention as part of the NSL violations. We pray that these developments will not incite fear among Hong Kong people especially among the young generations including their parents.

We also thank you God for your continued blessings and grace provided to Bethune House Migrant Women Refuge who are celebrating their 36 years in providing temporary shelter and care to foreign domestic workers who are in need and treated differently in Hong Kong.

Almighty God, we pray that our sisters and brothers who are physically ill or going through challenging times may be strengthened and recovered. Specifically, we pray for the mothers of Alex Melwani, Helen Lee, Florence and Chris Wong, for Mrs Samuel, Anjenette, Jenny Alegre, Habib, Hend, Jeanette Lee, Ng Kam Lee, Raymond Lau, Chui, Kevin Ng, Lyn, Lucy Lim, Mercy, Poulis Zaki, Saafa, Selvia and Stella Chan. We remember those caring for loved ones at home and in care facilities.

We also pray for the people and churches of all faiths in Belize, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico.

Lord God, we come before you today humbly, acknowledging our need for you. We thank you for your never-ending patience despite our many flaws and fumbles. Lord, we ask that you guide us as we seek to live out your will in our lives. Shine your light into the areas of our lives where we need to make changes and give us a desire to be more like you. We know your Word is a light unto our path, so help us to seek you out each day; to read Your Word for guidance and direction.

Lord, may your loving hand direct our steps as we go out into the world today. In Jesus' name, we ask these things,

Amen.

Prayer of Intercession

02 October 2022

Prepared by Journaliz Badon

Most gracious and loving Father, we lift up everything to You, for we know that apart from You, we can do nothing.

On this World Communion Sunday, we bring you our prayers of gratitude for the Gift of Your Son and the meal we share in remembrance of Him. We remember all throughout the world this day who will break bread and share the cup. May we always know and sense the unity in sharing this meal no matter our creed, colour, gender, or life choices.

Throughout the World, we can see the Covid case numbers going down, and we read of fewer flare-ups of the virus. We thank God for relaxing the Covid-19 health protocols here in Hongkong. Let us continuously pray for the ongoing world battle against this pandemic. May we strive to do our best to maintain our personal spaces, be ever considerate of our neighbour, and offer our support to those seeking to find a solution soon as possible

Lord, you have graciously blessed us with a beautiful and wonderful world, but our greed and need have destroyed and caused havoc with the natural order.  We lift to You the current situation in countries badly affected by climate change, especially in India and Pakistan. May we all, as stewards of God, learn to be accountable for our actions and seek ways to help our mother nature.

We pray for peace in the World. We especially pray for the ongoing war in Ukraine that has claimed many lives, and its effects are far-reaching worldwide. May those in leadership positions, not just in these countries but also in the Philippines and the rest of the world, choose to set aside their interests but rather think of the interest of the many.

For the ecumenical prayer cycle, we remember the peoples of all faith in Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela.

In a time of silence, we remember those Lord facing health challenges within our community here in Kowloon Union Church. Silently let us bring to the Lord those we carry in our hearts.

SILENCE

Particularly this morning, Lord, we remember the mother-in-law of Anne Antazo facing mental health issues, and we pray for our dear Ms Lucy for continued strength and energy as she faces her new treatment at Queen Mary Hospital.

Lord, these words are shared out loud, and those silently uttered in our hearts, we leave with you knowing that You are the one who will answer them.

In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. AMEN
