Prayer of Intercession

18 December 2022

Prepared by Rev. Judy Chan

Forth Sunday in Advent

Let us pray:

O God, in the chill of a winter monsoon, we’re keenly aware of those fighting to stay warm, pay fuel costs, and just survive. We especially remember those living in places with extreme cold and those suffering in Ukraine where war has cut off light, power and heat to many. May gov’ts respond to these urgent needs to save lives; may citizens reach out to help their neighbors near and far.

Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We grieve those traumatized by death, injury and violence, especially:

-Those who died or are missing after the landslide at a holiday camp in Malaysia

- Migrants who continue to perish in dangerous crossings of the English Channel and Mediterranean Sea

- Thousands of women and children in South Sudan forced to flee due to violence between armed factions

- People in the Democratic Republic of Congo where severe flooding has brought destruction and death.

Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for places struggling to cope with Covid-19. Three years on, there are still fears of lockdowns, hoarding, overrun medical facilities, rising numbers of infected, and those recovered but not yet restored to full health. Even in Hong Kong, people are dying from Covid every day. Comfort their loved ones and give strength to those who have cared for them. May your healing touch also be on Pastor Phyllis and our members, family and friends coping with the pandemic. Bless and keep them in Your grace.

Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

In our KUC family, we remember all who are sick, receiving treatment or experiencing any kind of distress. We remember our dear sister Mercy in hospital. Send a special outpouring of Your mighty Spirit upon her and all weary in body and soul.

We pray for those starting new jobs, those looking for work, those struggling in their current job or studies, those missing family during this holiday season, those trying to find peace in their homes and hearts.

Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Finally in the ecumenical prayer cycle, it’s our turn! Joining Christians around the world, we pray for the people, churches and people of all faiths in the China mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

And now let us pray the Lord’s Prayer together, you may say it in the language of your heart…
