God,
We thank you
for bringing us together to worship you as a faith community today. we offer
our prayers to you for the people who need your intervention in various ways.
Leader: Merciful
God, as the news about the fateful Malaysian Airlines MH370 has been released, that it “ended in the southern Indian Ocean, with possibly no survivors
onboard”, we uphold the family members
who have lost their loved ones in this tragedy and have been undergoing
continuous uncertainties amidst no concrete evidence of the crash. May the truth be found and justice reign.
God in your mercy,
People: Hear our prayer
Leader: Creator God,
we pray for the town of Oso near Seattle in the state of Washington where a
massive landslide has left over 150 missing, many dead and hundreds displaced.
May those mourning the loss of loved ones be comforted, survivors be found, and
the community be healed after this devastating tragedy. God in your mercy,
People: Hear our prayer
Leader: Healing God, we are concerned about the re-emergence of polio cases in Syria, as the
vaccinations for the local people was
disrupted due to the ongoing violence and tension between the rebel forces and the government
troops. Over twenty-five children in poor
neighborhoods have been diagnosed with polio in the past month,
and it is estimated that hundreds more are carrying the disease across country borders. Doctors and
volunteer aid workers in Syria have become the victims, caught up in the civil
war. We ask God to provide peaceful
means for ending the brutality on both sides, so that
doctors can travel safely to the areas where they are needed most and people in
need can quickly receive vaccines and treatment. God in your mercy.
People: Hear our prayer
Leader: God, the prince of peace,
the Taiwanese students protesting against President’s decision on the
Mainland-Taiwan Trade Pact have revealed their grave concern over the
government’s misuse of power in the endorsement of policies that may have
tremendous impact to the society. May the issue be settled by peaceful dialogue
between the public and the government.
God in your mercy,
People: Hear our prayer
Leader:
Loving God, as the Occupy Central movement aims to strive for genuine universal
suffrage in Hong Kong, we continue to pray for the
democracy. The people of Hong Kong have been longing for the right to nominate
and elect SAR leaders on the basis of one-person-one-vote. In the process of
consultation on the political reform, we pray that the views of Hong Kong people be
fully considered and respected, and that
the outcome will serve the best interests of the community. God in your mercy,
People: Hear our prayer
Leader: God, we pray for our
congregation and its various works and projects. We pray that all the ongoing work,
particularly the work to replace the broken pipes underground is done on
schedule and without any mishaps, particularly to the children, as the ground is dug up and poses a hazard. Lord in
your mercy,
People: Hear our prayer
Leader: Healing God, we uphold the
members of our congregation who are sick and / or hospitalised for
treatment. We particularly remember Bishop Samuel, Saimon, Kar Yu and the Leung family
in our prayers. As Saimon will start another round of chemotherapy next week,
give him the strength to go through this painful process of recovering. God in
your mercy,
People: Hear our prayer
In the Ecumenical Prayer Cycle, we remember the people and churches of Brunei, Malaysia and Singapore -
we ask this prayer in the name of our Jesus Christ – our friend and
liberator. Amen
