Prayer of Intercession
Third Sunday of Lent
Sunday, 19 March 2017
prepared and led by Hope S. Antone
For our act of
intercession, may I ask you to please join me after every prayer point? After I
say, “Lord of living water,” please join in saying, “quench
our thirst.”
Gracious
and loving God, you are the source of water that quenches our bodies. Through
Christ Jesus, you give us the living water that quenches our souls. Grant that
in our thirst for a deeper faith, for truth and wisdom, we will deepen our
relationship with Christ Jesus during this time of Lent… Lord of living water, quench our thirst.
God of creation, you entrusted the world to us for
our sustenance and care. Yet many people are suffering from drought and famine,
conflict and war, storms and volcanic eruptions. Many suffer from ailments due
to pollution. Help us to do our part to care for your creation, for ourselves
and the future generation… Lord of living
water, quench our thirst.
God of all nations, you
created us in diversity so we can celebrate such gift. But we create walls of
separation because of race, class, gender, orientation, and other differences.
Help us to break down walls that divide and build more bridges that foster
understanding, cooperation and unity…
Lord of living
water, quench our thirst.
God of peace and justice,
we pray for countries that just elected their new leaders. We lift up to you
the people of Korea and Hong Kong who are in need of new leaders. Touch the
hearts and minds of leaders and candidates so they may transform their
self-serving desires into selfless service for those in need… Lord of living water, quench our thirst.
God of health and
wholeness, we pray for your healing touch to be upon those who are ill – Pastor
Maggie, Stella Chan, Saimon, Jordan Hefty, Rev Kwok Nai Wang, Bishop JV Samuel
and others whose names we whisper to you in our heart and mind. We pray that
you strengthen those who attend to their needs, at home or in the
hospital. We lift up to you our sister Beng Rosalie Abejuela, whose
husband just passed away. May you comfort their family in this time of sorrow. Lord of living water,
quench our thirst.
God of love and
compassion, we lift up to you the countries of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
Thank you for the faithful witness of Christians there during times of
persecution. May the people exercise their new-found freedoms for the good of
all, the preservation of their distinct cultures and natural resources, the
healing of old wounds, and for just economic development. Lord of
living water, quench our thirst.
Ever faithful and
forgiving God, help us to feel your presence during
this Lenten journey through the wilderness, remembering the prayer that Christ
Jesus taught his disciples:
Our Father in
heaven,
hallowed be your
name,
your kingdom
come,
your will be
done,
on earth as
in heaven.
Give us today
our daily bread.
Forgive us
our sins
as we forgive
those who sin against us.
Lead us not
into temptation
but deliver
us from evil.
For the
kingdom, the power,
and the glory
are yours
now and for
ever.
Amen.
