Prayer of Intercession
Sunday, 23 February 2020
Seventh Sunday after Epiphany
Prepared and led by Robert Lam
For the beauty of the earth, for the beauty of the sky,
Lord, we give you thanks. A confirmation of your ever-abiding presence in our
world, in our community and in our lives.
We pray for the world groaning under the effect of climate
change: the melting glaciers, the wildfires in Australia and the severe storms
in many parts of the world.
We also pray for the animal world: the huge population of
animals killed in the bushfires in Australia and the ever-encroaching human
settlements into areas where wildlife used to roam freely; and the
indiscriminate capture and killing of these wildlife as food and sport.
Lord, help us to strive to be better stewards of your
creation.
We pray for those affected by Coronavirus. We remember
particularly the people in Hubei and Wuhan and the people of Daegu and
Cheongdo.
We pray for the doctors and medical profession in their
fight against the virus. May they have adequate protective gears and proper
working hours.
We pray for families with suspected or infected family
members, particularly the weak and the elderly. May they have access to proper
medical care and attention.
We pray for medical scientists in understanding more about
the virus and the early development of vaccines and proper medication.
We pray for the leaders of the countries affected by virus
in setting up humane and effective prevention measures of those infected.
We pray for those who are sick in our midst. May you comfort
them, give them peace, restore and heal them.
In the ecumenical cycle of prayers, we pray together with
other churches in Hong Kong and around the world for the people and churches of
Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.
We give thanks to the important roles political leaders here
have made to European integration. We also give thanks to the ecumenical
contributions that have come from this area. We pray for greater tolerance and
solidarity between people of different cultural, linguistic and political
backgrounds.
We pray all this in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus
Christ
Amen
