Prayer of Intercession
Sunday, 26 April, 2020
Prepared and led by Timothy Chan

Brothers and sisters in Christ, no matter where you are now, let us unite in prayer, to uplift our burdens, and the challenges the world is facing today. After each petition, I will say “Lord, in your mercy”, and everyone shall respond “Hear our prayer”

God of restoration, as the spread of the coronavirus continues, we are reminded that our prayer should never cease. There are times that we are so tired of the situation and turn our eyes away from Your power and grace. Together we pray for all patients who are battling the coronavirus, we pray that Lord you would ignite hope in them, let them know they are not alone. We pray that Lord they will receive proper treatment and care, also love and support that they need to fight this virus.
Lord in your mercy.
Hear our prayer.

Lord of all authority, we pray for all governments and political leaders in the world. As the pandemic lasts longer, the more fear that it will bring more problems such as mass unemployment, global hunger, and potential wars. We pray that they would put down their prejudice and mistrust, and to speak the truth and share useful information with one another in order to control the pandemic. We also pray for those countries who have less resources, that Lord you would provide them with what they need to protect their people from the virus.
Lord in your mercy.
Hear our prayer.

Caring God, we uplift all those who are serving selflessly and diligently in this time of hardship. We pray for all the medical staff, and those who work in the hospital. Without their hard work, more lives will be taken away. We pray Lord you would bless them, protect them and strengthen them. We also pray for those who work tirelessly in different positions, such as domestic workers and cleaners. Help us to see and appreciate their sacrifice too. May love be shared in our community, that vulnerable and marginalized groups would be well taken care of.
Lord in your mercy.
Hear our prayer.

God of freedom and justice, we uplift our city Hong Kong, as human rights and freedom are further tightened by the Chinese government intervention, the threat has never been closer. We pray for the people of HK, to have strength to stand up against what is wrong and to speak the truth. We remember all those who are being politically and religiously persecuted in HK, and in China, may you protect them and their families from any harm. May your justice prevail and may your kingdom reign in our land.
Lord in your mercy.
Hear our prayer.

God of young and old, we uplift our future generation in HK, as students have to take DSE during this time of coronavirus, we pray that they would have peace and strength to accomplish what they dream of. Lord we also pray for our senior friends in our community, in Hong Kong and in other places. We pray that Lord you would grant them health and strength each day to count your blessings.
Lord in your mercy.
Hear our prayer.

In this ecumenical prayer circle, we pray for churches and people of all faiths in Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan. We pray for an end to clashes related to tribalism, traditionalism, and modernization; and good relations between Muslims and Christians. In this time of Ramadan observed by Muslims community, may people continue to grow in their faith.
Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer.

May we all say the prayer that the Lord has taught us, you may pray in your own language. Our father...

Easter Sunday, 12 April, 2020
Prepared and led by Timothy Chan

Friends let us prepare our heart for the people’s prayer. After each petition, I will say: Christ, who is resurrected and alive. Everyone shall respond with: Hear our prayer.

Risen Lord, on this Easter morning marked by both sorrow and joy, we uplift to you our prayer of thanksgiving and petition. Due to the pandemic, churches throughout the world have closed on this special day, we pray that your people can still worship you and praise you wherever we are. We remember those churches and Christian leaders who serve with limited resources, may you provide them with what they need to serve the poor, as You are always walking with the marginalized and under-privileged. Unite Your people during this time, that through sharing and caring, we may witness your love and hope.
Christ, who is resurrected and alive.
Hear our prayer.

Healing God, as more than millions of people are infected with covid-19 virus, and tens of thousands of people have died because of it. We pray that the pandemic will soon be over, and life and hope will be restored in this land. We pray for your healing grace, not only to humankind, but also to the earth you have entrusted to us. We pray for all those who are ill, that you may give them strength, and pray for those who have lost their loved ones, that you may bring comfort to them.
Christ, who is resurrected and alive.
Hear our prayer.

Merciful God, we pray for all the governments, and all the medical staff who are trying their best to control the pandemic. May you grant them wisdom and strength during this time. As we witness how different countries are shifting blames and taking advantage of the situation to gain political influence and benefits, we pray that Lord you would end the scheme of the wicked. We ask that you would guide our leaders to place the need and life of the people before any particular agenda.
Christ, who is resurrected and alive.
Hear our prayer.

Loving God, we pray for our city Hong Kong. As the economy is hit hard by a series of events, many people’s livelihood are affected. We remember those who are unemployed and who have to work extra to earn their living. May the government subsidy plan be able to help them through this recession. We also pray for the migrant worker community as they face great challenges in their workplace. We remember students who are preparing for their public exams, and the poor families in Hong Kong. As stress and anxiety piled up, we ask for your protection to those who are vulnerable to any form of violence.

friends: Mrs Samuel, Mrs Chang, Peter & Judy, Revd
Kwok & Dorothy, Rev Bud, Rev Hans, amongst all others. We may not be able to meet, but we pray that you would inspire your people to show care and love for each other through different ways. Help us to be courageous to share what we have to the needy and bring hope to those who are in despair.
Christ, who is resurrected and alive.

Let us pray:

God the Wounded Healer,
Jesus carried the cross, taking the burden of those who suffer.
We seek Your divine presence and blessing in places where Your people are suffering from Covid-19 pandemic. We pray for those who had died to rest in peace and those who lost their beloved ones are comforted by Your love. May Your healing grace be with those who are on the way of recovery. Give them strength and faith that they shall overcome! We pray for effective medicine to treat the patients and vaccine to be developed soon to contain the coronavirus.

Christ, in Your compassion,

God the Giver,
Jesus came to give life, a life in full.
As the world is celebrating the work of medical health care workers on the World Health Day on 7 April, we give thanks to You for the doctors, nurses and other health workers who have served at the forefront tirelessly and selflessly during this COVID-19 crisis. May they be provided enough medical gear to keep themselves safe. We pray for their families as they have to share the burden and anxiety in one way or another. God, may You protect them and make them strong both in body and in spirit.

Christ, in Your compassion,
hear our prayer.

God the Liberator,
We pray for inner freedom within people’s heart when countries around the world have adopted drastic measures such as full lockdowns, shutting down airports, imposing travel restrictions and completely sealing their borders, to contain the new coronavirus. In the midst of social distancing, may You remind us that we are always connected in love with You and with each other. Ensure everyone in the world that nothing can separate us from Your love in Christ.

Christ, in Your compassion,
hear our prayer.

God the Lowly,
In all kinds of human crisis, the poor, the weak and the marginalized always suffer the most. We pray that the divine mercy and care through human hands go to asylum seekers and refugees, migrant workers, new immigrants, ethnic minorities and anyone who is living in poverty and being neglected.

Christ, in Your compassion,
hear our prayer.

God the Righteous,
We pray that all human beings’ dignity will be upheld. We remember those who have been suffering from oppression, persecution, unjust trial and retaliation because of their acts for social justice and the common good. We pray for the human rights lawyers and activists in China and other parts of the world. May they be set free physically and spiritually.

We pray for the medical health workers who had initiated and joined the strike for the interests of the society at the early outbreak of the coronavirus in Hong Kong. May they be fairly treated and protected by Your righteous spirit.

May the prince of peace quiet their hearts and Your justice prevail!

Christ, in Your compassion,
hear our prayer.

God the Servant King,
You came to the world not to be served but to serve.
We pray for local and national leaders in Hong Kong, China and all over the world. May they use their power and position to serve their people with accountability, but not for their own interests. Lord, fill these leaders with a loving heart and with the thirst for justice and peace that Christ alone can satisfy.

Christ, in Your compassion,
hear our prayer.

God the One Body

In the ecumenical prayer cycle, this week we remember and uplift our prayers for the people and churches of Bulgaria, Hungary, and Romania. We pray for better relationships among different ethnic groups and traditions in these countries. May the children, women, the young and the elderly be well treated and receive adequate services according to their needs.

Within our congregation in Kowloon Union Church, we remember and pray for our children and senior members. We pray to God for comfort and gracious presence to Mrs Chang and her family members in a time of loss for the passing of Mr Chang. We remember members overseas who are affected by the travel ban and their country’s lockdown policy.

God make Your church united as one to be light of the world to bring Your love, peace and hope in a suffering world we are living in. Grant to us courage and wisdom to serve with Christ as we walk together with Him in His Passion for the redemption of the world.

Christ, in Your compassion,
hear our prayer.
We pray all these in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, the suffering and loving God. Amen.
