Prayer of Intercession
Sunday 22 August 2021
Prepared by Aimé Girimana
Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost

We thank you Lord for opening the doors of salvation and forgiveness through the death of your dear Son Jesus Christ. Enable us to always put our trust in the one who save us and to dedicate our lives to his praises and glory.

So, with confidence we come to you today as the world, the nature, climate, relationships, and health are changing due to human deeds. Lord may you forgive us for failing to take care of your creation and destroy your beautiful world including killing each other.

In this prayer, we remember people affected by the climate change appearing in form of extreme hot weather, wildfire, and other natural disaster. May you Lord help those in charge of the environment, political and religious leaders, health responsible, trained, and wise people to Godly discharge their duties for the sake of your sons and daughters.

Lord we know that nothing is beyond your power, so we lift up to you Afghan people who felt in the hand of the Taliban power, people in Haiti suffering from natural disaster after the political instability, People in Europe and the USA victims of wildfire, protect them with your divine hand.

We pray also for those who are looking for new homes as refugees because of those calamities, may you be with them until they find safe places.

We remember in this prayer those who have been affected by COVID-19 and economic slowdown; they are facing strong reduced incomes and loss of jobs. Lord we pray your provision and protection.
We pray also for those enduring difficulties because of health issues in our community, those enduring extended separation with families and relatives because of travel restrictions including foreigner domestic workers and other ex-parts as well as people from Hong Kong or have left Hong Kong. May your comfort and hope duel in them and help them to always believe that everything, with you and by you is possible.

We finally pray for KUC, Lord help us to be a transformed community which is reveled through generosity and care, service, joy and humility. Help us Lord to gladly seek to obey your commend to love one another and to love our neighbor as we love ourselves so that you will be always glorified through our daily deeds. In Jesus name we pray.

Prayer of Intercession
Sunday 15 August 2021
Prepared by Sunita Suna
Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost

Creator God,

We come to you as a faith community and uplift our concerns, transgression unto you for your intervention in different ways in responding to the challenges we face in our world today. Currently, we are witnessing an extraordinary time and situation in different parts of the world.  The wildfires raging from the east to the west and north to the south have destroyed lives, livelihood, wildlife, and the environment! May the authorities be guided by God’s wisdom and guidance to contain the wildfires effectively to protect lives and the environment. May human beings learn lessons from natural and human-made disasters and change behaviour to combat climate change and protect God’s creation.

God in your mercy, Hear our prayer

God, we continue to witness VAW across the world. Women’s bodies and sexuality are being used and abused as a weapon of war. We as a faith community strongly condemn this violence and especially remember and uphold the women and girls in the Tigray region of Ethiopia, where sexual violence against women in this region amounts to war crimes reported by Amnesty International. Ethiopian officials and authorities have not taken any measures to protect women and children in this region. We earnestly pray that the patriarchal and military power stop using women as sexual objects and treat them as human beings. May God’s spirit empower every individual to speak up against VAW and girls to restore human dignity, rights and justice to those women and girls. May the faith community continuously advocate against VAW and girls and affirm that women and men are equally created in the image and likeness of God.

God in your mercy, Hear our prayer

God, we are equally concerned and terrified by the recent development of the Militant Taliban taking over city after city in Afghanistan.  Thousands of families are fleeing their cities and lives, becoming miserable with the invasion of the Taliban. We seek God’s intervention through the authorities and world leaders to protect the lives of the ordinary people who are helpless to protect themselves and their families. May God work in the hearts and minds of the militants to transform their aggression of violence against humanity towards more human forms of protests and resistance.

God in your mercy, Hear our prayer

God, we are thankful for the beautiful planet earth. If we do not take proper care of the planet earth, it might not be habitable for the future generation due to the worsening climate crisis. We are concerned by the latest IPCC Global climate assessment body’s report, which concludes that humans are responsible for climate change. Let the policies to combat climate change be just and thoughtful for the people living in the margins who are constantly threatened by disasters due to the climate crisis. May they be guided by God’s wisdom and work with a conscience to prioritise alleviating the suffering of people and communities living in low-income countries.

God in your mercy, Hear our prayer

God, we remember the students and teachers union of Hong Kong as they continue to strive for a democratic society. Lead the community and authorities to meaningful discourse and dialogue to reflect on the city's freedom and democratic space values.

God, we remember the sick in the hospital, especially during the pandemic, with restrictions on meeting loved one’s face to face. We are thankful that few hospitals have worked hard to make it safe and will be opened for the family members to visit them. May God’s presence ignite the human connections to bring joy, happiness and wellness to the families.

God in your mercy, Hear our prayer

For the Ecumenical Prayer Cycle

Today, we lift in prayer the churches and people of all faiths in Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Niger.

We are thankful for the heritage of ancient trade routes, rich oral traditions and nomadic practices of people in the lands these countries now occupy; humanitarian work to improve food security and livelihoods, especially for women; pro-active efforts to preserve the environment in these desert lands; welcome and provision for those who often must flee across borders.

We pray for those impoverished who lack basic needs and rights that these will be met; desperate children and others who turn to crime or begging or become enslaved; effective response to the frequent droughts and hunger in this area; more stable political rule in these countries to stem violence and provide for all.

God in your mercy, Hear our prayer

 Prayer of Intercession
Sunday 1 August 2021
Prepared by Elim Mok
Tenth Sunday after Pentecost

Let us pray for the world, Hong Kong, the ecumenical churches, and the congregation. After each petition, I will say, "God in your mercy," and you may join in saying, "Hear our prayer."

Creator God, we pray for the natural world, which is suffering from human exploitation. The increasing of severe disasters around the world reminds us of the massive impact of climate change. We pray for those who lost their homes and beloved ones from fires and floods in California, Henan Zhengzhou, and Germany. May your peace and strength be with the heartbroken families and survivors. Remind us that the natural world is part of God's creation and our family of Christ.

God in your mercy. Hear our prayer.

God of Peace, we pray for the people in Ethiopia and Lebanon who face political conflicts and economic crises. We pray for their needs and stability in society. In the ecumenical prayer cycle, we also pray for the churches and people of all faiths in the Republic of Congo, Gabon, Sao Tome, and Principe. We pray for democratic, fair political systems and a sustainable economy. May your peace be with the people.

God in your mercy. Hear our prayer.

Loving God, we pray for our home, Hong Kong. We cheered for the achievement and efforts of our Hong Kong athletes in the Tokyo Olympics. We are encouraged by the young athletes' efforts and resilience. We pray for them to have more support from the government and society, allowing them to concentrate on their training and competition without disturbs. While cheering for our athletes, we also remember those who are facing uncertainty in facing law trials. We pray for the young man who is facing nine years of imprisonment under the national security law trial. May your love and strength be with him.

God in your mercy. Hear our prayer.

Merciful God, we pray for our congregation. We remember our brothers and sisters who are facing health challenges and medical treatments. May your healing hand rest on Som, the mother of Sameth in Cambodia, Asha Melwani the mother of Alex, and Mrs Samuel. We also pray for Doris and her sister Jeanette Lee, Rachel Perry the niece of Tory Caplan, Mirasol Bolanos sister of Anjenette, and Jenny Alegre who remains in Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

God in your mercy. Hear our prayer.

We all pray in the one body of Christ and the name of our Savior, Amen.
