In the midst of chaos, disaster and grief, You are the one we turn to. You are the light that shines upon us, illuminating even the darkest moments in our lives, telling us we are not alone. You are our source of happiness and with You and the people around us, we truly are blessed.
We pray for Your mercy as violence continues to rage across our planet. Religious fundamentalism, political conflicts, violence against women and children, and xenophobic hate have harmed so many innocent lives. We pray for the Embera people in Northern Colombia, Muslim communities in India, asylum seekers and refugees on land and at sea, migrants and their families, children. Please be with them during these times. May those who extend help to them, advocate for them, work with them be strengthened. May Your love, justice and mercy reign in the hearts of those who lead so that the weak and the vulnerable be protected at all times.
We pray for guidance as we course through troubling times – with COVID infections on the rise and new variants like the Omicron coming up. Millions of people around the world remain unvaccinated mainly because of vaccine inequity. Walk with us, Lord God, as we work towards making the COVID vaccine a global public good. May the people’s health be given a premium over corporate profit. Like Your love that You give freely and so generously to us, may vaccine and health care be shared unconditionally to all.
We pray for comfort – for those who have lost their lives in accidents, tragedies, natural calamities. Welcome, Lord God, those who have died from the Bulgarian bus accident. May their families find comfort in the midst of this loss.
We pray for all children, Lord God. May they be nourished and showered with love by their parents, their families, their friends, their communities. May those in power protect them from harm and become models of good leadership and stewardship for them.
In the ecumenical prayer cycle, we pray for the people of all faiths, churches and places of worship in Singapore, Brunei and Malaysia.
For our church and community, we pray for Som, the mother of Sameth in Cambodia, Asha Melwani the mother of Alex, and Mrs Samuel, Jenny Alegre, Hend, Jeanette and Doris Lee, Rachel Perry, Ng Kam Lee, Raymond Lau, Kathy Chan and Louis Lo. We also pray for Eliseo Catedral or Seysey, may he continue to grow in Your love. May he with his parents Lydia and Carl, remain strong, gracious and their home filled with joy and Your presence.
Lord God, amid many challenges that are in front of us and yet to come, we find peace and hope in You. May Your Spirit that has always been in us, may the Spirit of Your hope continue to enliven us as we fulfil Your Word everyday of our lives. This we pray, through Your Son Jesus Christ, Amen.
