Fifth Sunday of Lent
Lord, we come to you this morning, happy to
be worshipping together as the Corporate Body of Christ, to give thanks for
your daily provision at this time of pandemic and wars and conflicts around the
world. Also a time to be quiet and to listen and to meditate on your Word.
We pray for Hong Kong
We give thanks to the plateauing of the
covid cases. We pray that you would
continue to bless and to uphold the people working at the front line looking
after the infected patients, doctors and nurses, cleaning staff and
administrators and people handling logistics. We pray that you would watch over them, in
their protection of themselves and their families.
We mourn the loss of so many of our elderly
citizens. We pray for the elderly homes, for the care of the elderly and for the caregivers attending to them. We also
pray for those who have hospitalized. That the doctors will be able to look
after them well and that they would recover soon.
We pray for this Government. For wisdom in
handling all aspects of the covid situation. In tackling and in reducing the
cases to a minimum. We also pray that they will have wisdom in the detailed
planning of possible future variants to avoid a repeat of the 5th
wave.
We pray for the imminent election of the
New Chief Executive. We pray for a future Chief Executive who is able to unite
the entire community to work together for the good of Hong Kong. Able to
promote human justice, care for the poor and the marginalized.
We pray for those who are still in jail due
to the social unrest. We pray for their well- being, for their loved ones,
families and friends. May they find comfort and strength from you.
We pray for China
We pray for the 10 million university
students graduating this summer looking for work and those laid off due to the
severe retrenchment in the tech firms.
We give thanks to the Government policy of
common prosperity, ensuring better wages and conditions for the workers. We
pray that Government would continue to narrow the huge disparity between the
well-off and the poor across the country.
We pray for religious freedom in the
country, for people of all faith, in the established churches and in home
churches, in urban areas and in all other parts of China. We pray that the full
message of the Gospel can be preached. We continue to pray for a respect for
human rights and policy change against the uyghurs and other ethnic and
religious minorities in Xinjiang.
We pray for the world.
We remember the Ukraine conflict. We
remember the suffering of the people, and those who have been lost and killed
in this war.
We pray for the displaced population across
the whole country, the old and infirmed, the children and parents uprooted from
their daily life, forced as refugees to leave to nearby countries. We pray that
the safe passage will be opened to allow them to leave. We give thanks to the
countries receiving them and helping them to settle.
We pray for the successful outcome of the
ongoing peaceful negotiations.
Here at Kowloon Union Church, we remember our KUC family.
We pray for Asha Melwani the mother of Alex
and Mrs Samuel. For Jenny Algre, Hend, jeanette Lee, Rachel Perry, Ng Kam Lee,
Raymond Lau Chung Yoke Chin, Kathy Chan, Louis Lo, Tong Chong Sze and Glicerio
Bandon Jr.
We continue to pray for the Nam family at
this precious time with their critically ill Mother. We pray for Peter Leung
and family, that they find comfort in this time of loss.
In the ecumenical cycle of prayer, we remember the churches and people of all faith in the
Balkans-Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North
Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia.
We pray all these in the name of our Lord
and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
