Prayer of Intercession
29 May 2022
Prepared by Dr Hope Antone
Seventh Sunday of Easter
Let us bring before God our concerns for the world, our community, and the church.
Creator God, you entrusted the world to us as our home, where we care for each other and share the resources to sustain life. Yet we have misused and abused your creation; natural disasters happen as a result of imbalances in nature. We are caught in a culture of war, injustice, and inhumanity to one another. Transform the hearts and minds of those who seek to impose their will on others, through violence, coercion, and abuse. Protect all those suffering in Ukraine, Myanmar and other places. Bless those who offer refuge and comfort for the injured, persecuted and displaced. Guide leaders that their actions and decisions on the conflicts may result in just and peaceful outcomes. God in your mercy: hear our prayer.
Faithful God, we lift up to you the families who lost children and loved ones due to recent gun violence in the US; or through past and continuing repression by states or governments. We remember sad incidents like June 4, and other dates that signify violations of human rights in different countries of Asia and the world. Comfort the grieving and inspire those who continue to envision a better society. God in your mercy: hear our prayer.
God of Justice, help us in our effort to make our society fair and just. We pray for those who are struggling to provide shelter and food for their families. We remember those who have been deprived of their rights to life in its fullness. May we find ways to recognize their value and contributions to society, that they will not be neglected, exploited and abused. God in your mercy: hear our prayer.
Merciful God, we see a drop in Covid-19 infections in the city, but we also note the threat of a new disease, monkey pox. We pray for those who suffer from anxiety and those who are helping them to deal with their conditions. With the unequal distribution of vaccines among nations, we pray that pharmaceutical companies will not only think of making profits through their business but of serving the poorest communities in greater need. God in your mercy: hear our prayer.
Loving God, we pray for your church here that your children may unite as one, transforming divisions, living out the love of Christ that the world may see and believe the gospel. We pray especially for the newly elected Council, treasurer and trustees of Kowloon Union Church, that they may guide our congregation with renewed vision. We also pray for the peace making ministry of KUC as it shares messages at churches and schools. Bless our peace ambassadors with empowerment and those who hear their message with enlightenment. God in your mercy: hear our prayer.
For the Ecumenical Prayer Cycle: We pray for the peoples in Angola and Mozambique. May they benefit from the rich natural resources in their countries, the positive developments following the years of civil war, the efforts to protect livelihood and ensure food security. We pray for better sanitation, health services, and protection of the environment; for the healing of scars from colonization and civil wars; for land rights; for transparent governance that looks after the greater good. God in your mercy: hear our prayer.
Gracious God, hear our intercessions for we offer them in the name of Christ Jesus who taught his disciples to pray this way:
