Prayer of Intercession

28 May 2023

Prepared by Emmanuel Adesina

Pentecost Sunday

Loving God, we have come before You today, reverencing You for who You are and all You have done for us, both the ones we can see and cannot see, your everlasting caring love for all Your creatures, with a grateful heart, we say, thank you, Lord.

Oh Lord, on this day of Pentecost, we acknowledge you for the peace given to us through Christ, which the world cannot provide. We thank you for this peace and the spirit you have breathed into us. Today, we pray this peace and spirit never departs from our lives and Your church but continues to grow. We pray Your spirit will help us keep Your commandments of love throughout our existence on earth.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers.

Oh Lord, King of Peace, we pray you liberate the world presently experiencing a different level of conflict that has brought hatred to affected societies. Oh Lord, we pray for peace and unity in all regions facing a crisis.

We pray You to grant world leaders involved in decision-making the wisdom and knowledge to make the right decisions and lead in ways of freedom, justice, and peace, not for personal gains.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers.

Lord of deliverance, we remember those in need of deliverance from sickness, any form of confinement, anger, depression and addiction. We pray You deliver them from every form of bitterness, depriving them of the needed peace and strengthen them in their faith to glorify Your name.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers.

Oh, Lord, we remember Hong Kong in our prayers. Specifically, we thank you for all serving the city in different leadership capacities and pray You provide them with wisdom and knowledge to continue making decisions that address the issues impacting the most vulnerable in the city. We pray You strengthen them and grant them Your peace as they continue to make the region a better place to live for residents, most importantly with love and renewed hope.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers.

In the ecumenical prayer cycle, we pray for an unweary commitment for people and churches of all faith around the world, which brings glory and honour to You, our Lord, making people find strength in whatever situations they are in and staying focused on Christian duties according to Your will.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers.

Oh Lord, we conclude with a humble heart that all our prayer requests today become mercifully answered in Jesus Christ. Amen.

And let us share in the words given to us by Christ and let us pray, especially on this day of Pentecost, in our own native tongues;

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.

Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.

Seventh Sunday After Easter

In the power of the Spirit and in union with Christ, let us pray to the Father.  As we pray, after I say “God in your mercy”, please respond, “Hear our prayer.”

Almighty Creator God

You gave us a beautiful world to rejoice in. But, through foolishness, greed and, unjust systems, we abuse it and each other. Across the world we see pollution, drought and wildfires, storms and floods.

Bless and help those suffer in the world’s havoc.  We especially pray for the million affected by the recent Cyclone Mocha.

Grant us the spirit of wisdom and understanding to use and care for your creation properly.

God, in your mercy

hear our prayer

Active God of the Prophets

Protect all who call out injustice and oppression and work for positive change. Give strength and comfort to those who strive and suffer to repair the world. Awaken a sense of justice in people in power and call them to good action.

God, in your mercy

hear our prayer

Sweet sGod of Peace

We pray for the many places where there is civil unrest, war, fear of war, and where there is domestic violence. We especially pray for the wounded and the tortured.

Direct our families, communities, and every nation, in the ways of justice and of peace; that we may honor one another, and seek the common good.

God, in your mercy

hear our prayer

Dear Logos, God as Word

You hear us. You hear us whether we speak out loud or in our hearts. Open our physical and spiritual ears, so we can hear you clearly too. Help us grow in the knowledge and love of you and rejoice that we are all one.

God, in your mercy

hear our prayer

Incarnate God, companion of all who suffer in mind, body, or spirit:

Look after people in danger, sorrow, or any kind of trouble: the sick, the lonely, the abused, the addicted, the grieving, the homeless, the imprisoned, the poor, the oppressed, refugees, victims of disasters, and people who feel displaced in life.

Strengthen them in their hours of need. Give them courage and hope in their troubles; relieve and protect them, and bring them the joy of your salvation

God, in your mercy

hear our prayer

Triune God, who we meet in community,

God, in your mercy

hear our prayer

For the Ecumenical Prayer Cycle

We lift up in prayer the churches and people of all faiths in the Indian Ocean Islands: Comoros, Madagascar, Maldives, Mauritius and the Seychelles.

God, in your mercy

hear our prayer

Rejoicing in the fellowship of all your saints, we commend ourselves and the whole creation to your unfailing love.

Amen.
