Prayer of Intercession

23 June 2024

Prepared by Rev. Phyllis Wong

Forth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear God of love and peace, we humbly pray:

For the world:

When the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is observed globally on June 26th, we pray for individuals and countries that are facing drug abuse and their urgent need to address the complications posed by the drug trade.
We pray for people who are suffering from different kinds of abuse and illegal trafficking. May your love and justice shine!
We pray for migrants and asylum seekers who are seeking a safe home. We are thankful to the recent compassionate measure in Colombia to grant legal status to up to 540,000 Venezuelan migrants who are guardians to minors residing there. May it serve as a shining example of how nations can unite to uplift the lives of those in need. May this act of humanitarian grace inspire similar acts of kindness worldwide.
Lord, in your mercy.
Hear our prayers.

For China & Hong Kong
We pray for a free and democratic China and Hong Kong. May the governments truly care for their people and rule the nation by upholding fundamental human rights, rule of law and freedom of expression.
We are thankful for the hard-working population especially those who are working in dangerous industries to build the city of Hong Kong. We are sad to see many industrial accidents that have killed and injured many workers. We pray for the enactment of stricter workplace safety laws and enforcement in Hong Kong to protect the workers.
Pray for the political prisoners and their beloved ones. Blessed are those who are persecuted for justice. May your light and peace dwell in a time of darkness and hardship.
Lord, in your mercy.
Hear our prayers.

For God’s Church,
We pray for the churches all over the world, may they continue to be salt and light, to witness God’s kingdom with courage to speak the truth, with love to care for the vulnerable people and nature, with wisdom to do the right thing according to your will. Oh God, may your people always prepare a heart to listen and follow the way of Jesus Christ.

For the Ecumenical Prayer Cycle this week, we lift in prayer the churches and people of all faiths in Kenya and Tanzania.
We remember the life and well-being of the people in these two countries. While people in Tanzania are facing absolute poverty and in Kenya people are facing inequality of wealth distribution. We pray that world resources that are from God would be shared more equally to meet with the needs of the people. No one should suffer from hunger and every human being can live a life with dignity. We pray that Churches are pro-active to act to combat poverty as we are called to share the good news to the poor.
We pray for Global Unites, a world-wide organization to inspire, connect and equip Youths to transform Global Societies through movements that promote hope, non-violence and reconciliation. We are thankful KUC is given opportunity to support the Global Unites in Sierra Leone. May the Holy spirit continue to inspire and to give the youth strength and resilience to engage in peacemaking for the world. May the church also engage more of the young people in the mission of the church.
Lord, in your mercy.
Hear our prayers.

For KUC
We are thankful for the loving and diverse community you have given us.
We pray for those who are sick to be healed and comforted by you Oh Lord. May they and those who care for them stay closer to you in a time of health challenge.
We pray for the centenary celebration of the church. May what we do is focussed on you and to reveal your glory and kindness to all.
We pray for the church pastors, supporting staff and leaders: the Council, Trustees, different ministry committees to serve together in unity with your full presence and grace. Please grant to the new Council wisdom and strength to serve as One for God and with God.
Lord, in your mercy.
Hear our prayers.

To close our prayer, let us share the Lord’s Prayer, the words that taught by Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. You are welcome to say in your own language and preferred version.

Our Father in Heaven
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven

Give us today our daily bread.
forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who have sinned against us
lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil
for the kingdom and the power and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

Prayer of Intercession

09 June 2024

Prepared by Robert Lam

Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Lord, as we worship you this morning, we remember the churches throughout the world today also worshipping and celebrating your gift of life as the unified Body of Christ. We remember our sisters and brothers in the midst of wars and conflicts, in persecution and in areas of famine and want. Struggling to find meaning to their suffering and of your presence in their life.

Lord, we pray that you would comfort those who mourn, give hope to those who despair and to those who feel that you have abandoned them.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers.

We pray for Hong Kong

We remember the events of the past few years that have given a sense of uncertainty in the city.

But Lord, we are thankful that you have placed us here in Hong Kong, our Home, for a purpose: To live, to grow and to put down roots. To be a light to the community. And as a church to serve whatever the circumstances.

Help us not to despair. Help us to be a positive influence to those around us.

Help us to look at the opportunities to serve you better in Hong Kong and in China.  Help us to uphold justice and Hong Kong way of life.

Help us to continue our work on the marginalized, the poor and the weak.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers.

We pray for Kowloon Union Church

We pray for Pastor Maggie as she takes up the work of Minister in Charge. For Paul Wong the new chair of the Council. We ask that you give them wisdom and strength.

Lord in your mercy hear our prayers.

We pray for members of the congregation, remembering those who need your loving care and abiding presence as they face health challenges in their lives: Kevin Ng, Jeanette Lee, Hend, Ng Kam Lee, Raymond Lau, Joy Babasa, Julianne Long, Revd Kwok, Ajmal Samuel, and JEN Pang. We ask that you restore them to good health.

We continue to remember our senior members and friends, Mrs Samuel and the mothers of Alex Melwani and June Tang.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers.

In the ecumenical cycle of prayers, we remember the people and churches of all faith in  Botswana and Zimbabwe.

We pray all these in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ

 Amen.

Prayer of Intercession

02 June 2024

Prepared by Tory Caplan

First Sunday in Ordinary Time

In the power of the Spirit and in union with Christ, let us pray to the Father.  As we pray, after I say “God in your mercy”, please respond, “Hear our prayer.”

Almighty Creator God

Thank you for the beautiful world you made and sustain: the fruitful earth, the clean air & pure water.

But, your creation groans in suffering because of our foolishness, greed, and unjust systems. We turn your abundance into scarcity, poison, and disasters.

Grant us and our leaders the will and ability to care for your world properly. Help us build, maintain, and share wisely and justly.

God, in your mercy

hear our prayer

God of the Prophets

Protect all who call out injustice and oppression and work for positive change. Give patience, strength and comfort to those who strive and suffer to repair the world. Awaken a sense of justice in people in power and call them to good action.

God, in your mercy

hear our prayer

Life Giving Spirit, God of Peace

We pray for the many places where there is war and fighting. We pray for people who lack safety at home or outside their homes. Heal their physical, mental, and spiritual wounds.

Direct our families, our communities, and every nation, in the ways of kindness, justice and peace; that we may honour one another, and seek the common good.

God, in your mercy

hear our prayer

God of Hospitality

As hosts, help us welcome and honour everyone who comes; sharing what we have joyfully; thanking you for opportunity to give loving kindness.  As guests, help us enjoy hospitality, knowing that we bring blessings, our very presence an honour and a gift.

Help us as we take turns as host and guests, interdependent with each other; all dependent on you.

God, in your mercy

hear our prayer

Healer and companion of all who suffer in body, mind, or spirit:

Look after people in danger, sorrow, or any kind of trouble: the sick, the lonely, the abused, the addicted, the grieving, the homeless, the imprisoned, the poor, the oppressed, refugees, victims of disasters, and people who feel displaced in life.

We particularly pray for those enduring terrible heat (over 50C!) in northern and central India; cyclones in Bangladesh and India; and torrential rains and landslides in Papua New Guinea.

Strengthen them in their hours of need. Give them courage and hope in their troubles; relieve and protect them, and bring them the joy of your salvation

God, in your mercy

hear our prayer
