Prayer of Intercession

12 July 2026

Prepared by Adam Snyder

Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Father, we thank you so much for this morning when we can come together and present ourselves as good soil for your Word. And we thank you for John’s message for us today, reminding us to open our eyes to see and ears to hear, but also our hands to sow your light in the world with action. It is with this mission in mind that we bring the injustices weighing on the world, the pollutants that contaminate the soil, before you this morning so that all hearts may be receptive to your word by your grace.

Author of Creation, we remember today the world that you commended to us to steward as it cries out, and our neighbors around the world cry out with it. In France and Spain, wildfires exacerbated by high temperatures and low rainfall continue to rage on, displacing thousands and killing dozens. Closer to home, the 1000km-wide Typhoon Bavi, whose massive size has been fuelled by a warming ocean, is currently making landfall in mainland China after already causing landslides in the Philippines that claimed 17 lives.  Father, we pray for your hand of protection over your children in these places, and that you would be with the countless rescue and emergency workers battling earth, fire, wind, and rain to protect their neighbors. We also beg your forgiveness for our careless destruction of your world and ask that you raise up voices of wisdom, courage, and truth that can bring the healing and restoration of the beautiful natural world that we share.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer

God of Mercy, we lift up today those fleeing war, disaster, and want as more and more nations impose stricter barriers and borders to keep them out. According to the World Health Organization, over one billion people are migrating, exposed to severe health inequities due to their migration experiences. They face mental trauma, PTSD, and advanced illnesses, and are often cut off from healthcare systems because of their status. They also face persecution and violence amid a rising tide of anti-migrant sentiment around the world. Almighty God, as the wealthy and privileged seek to build higher and higher walls to exclude and restrict, we pray that you open windows of escape with Your boundless mercy. Lord, we intercede for those running from danger, that they may find safety, security, and welcome wherever they go. And may your Peace and Justice come swiftly over all the lands so that everyone’s home is safe.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer

Great Teacher, we lift up this morning the students of the world. We remember those children cut off from the opportunity to learn in a school community because of war, discrimination, or poverty, and ask that their ways be made clear to experience the joy of discovering new knowledge. We pray for your protection over school sites around the world so that the most vulnerable among us can find safety and care rather than violence and oppression. We also ask that your Spirit of Comfort be with us in Hong Kong this week as students will receive their DSE results later this week, bringing both joy and disappointment to so many young people in our city. Father, we know the human cost of the massive academic pressures that are placed on students by systems that seek to reduce their worth to a number, and we pray that you would place in their lives people who speak the truth and promise of your love for them this week and always.

Lord, in your Mercy, hear our prayer

Good Shepherd, we give thanks this morning as well for those who faithfully serve your call to feed your sheep and be the hands of your mercy and love in this world. We remember this morning Father Youhanna Al-Amin, a Sudanese Catholic priest who was shot dead by local armed militia after refusing to yield the church’s medical store keys. We also remember Dottie McMahon Kwok, a longtime teacher and activist for social justice and non-violence who passed away on Monday morning in the United States. We also pray for your healing hand over KUC mission partner Dr. Molly Abraham, founder of Liza’s Home in Bangalore, India, who has been confined to home and bedrest for the last 3 months. Lord God, we give thanks for the lives of Father Al-Amin and Dottie, and for their examples of selfless service. We also pray for your healing and guidance over Dr. Abraham and Liza’s Home in this challenging time.

Lord, in your Mercy, hear our prayer

Sovereign God, this week in the Ecumenical Prayer Cycle we lift in prayer the churches and people of all faiths in Eritrea and Ethiopia. We give thanks for the long centuries of Christian history in these countries, and the current witness and work of churches of all traditions amid difficult circumstances. We also pray for those working for the peaceful reconciliation between Eritrea and Ethiopia and ask that you bless their efforts amid violent tensions. We also pray for your protection over those facing political oppression and ethnic violence.

Lord, in your Mercy, hear our prayer

Great Healer, we lift up those among us struggling under the burdens of illness, despair, financial insecurity, or anything else that may be weighing on the heart. Lord, we ask that you would grant relief from these pressures for all who face them. We pray especially for Kevin Ng, Jeanette Lee, Hend, Marina, Ng Kam Lee, Raymond Lau, Joy Babasa, Rose Chue, Doris Lee, Mercy Matilda, Esther Bangcawayan, Ajmal Samuel and Tong Chong Sze, who are facing health challenges and need to strengthen their bodies. We continue to remember our senior members and friends: Revd. Kwok, Mrs. Samuel, and the mothers of June Tang and Tong Chong Sze. May You heal the sick and give strength to those caring for loved ones at home and in care facilities.

Lord, in your Mercy, hear our prayer

Great Sower, as we go out into the world today, we ask that your Word find purchase in our hearts and grow deep, healthy roots. It is with this desire that we close by inclining our hearts and pray together with the words that Christ taught us, in whatever language we are most comfortable…

Sunday in Ordinary Time

In the power of the Spirit and in union with Christ, let us pray to the Father.  As we pray, after I say, “God in your mercy”, please respond, “Hear our prayer.”

Almighty Loving  God

We are grateful to you for your steadfast love, never leaving us alone.Help us all to hear and feel and act on your love daily: reflecting it in lifelong dedication.

God, in your mercy
hear our prayer

Almighty Creator God

Thank you for the beautiful world you made and sustain: the fruitful earth, the clean air & pure water. But, your creation suffers because of our foolishness, greed, and unjust systems. We turn your abundance into scarcity, poison, and disasters: storms, fires, floods, avalanches, and drought. In particular we ask that you give comfort and mercy to the victims and helpers in the recent earthquakes in Venezuela as well as the millions across the world suffering from heat waves made worse by human created climate change.Grant us and our leaders the will and the ability to care for your world properly and heal it.

God, in your mercy
hear our prayer

Life Giving Spirit, God of Peace

We pray for everywhere there is fighting and war. We pray for people who lack safety inside or outside their homes. Heal their physical, mental, and spiritual wounds. We especially pray for peace in the Middle East, especially in Iran and Lebanon.

Direct our families, our communities, and every nation, in the ways of kindness, justice and peace; that we may honour one another and seek the common good.

God, in your mercy
hear our prayer

God of Reason, Knowledge, and Wisdom

We are flooded every day by so much information and dis-information.  Grant us discernment: help us to learn, know, and understand what things we ought to do; and then please, give us grace and power to faithfully accomplish them.

God, in your mercy
hear our prayer

Healer and companion of all who suffer in body, mind, or spirit

Look after people in fear, danger, sorrow, or any kind of trouble: the sick, the lonely, the abused, the addicted, the grieving, the homeless, the imprisoned, the poor, the oppressed, refugees, victims of disasters, and people who see no path forward to safety and stability.

Strengthen them in their hours of need. Give them courage and hope in their troubles; relieve and protect them and bring them the joy of your salvation.

In particular, we pray for Kevin Ng, Jeanette Lee, Hend, Marina, Ng Kam Lee, Raymond Lau, Joy Babasa, Rose Chue, Doris Lee, Mercy Matilda, Esther Bangcawayan, Ajmal Samuel and Tong Chong Sze.

We continue to remember our senior members and friends: : Revd. Kwok, Mrs. Samuel, and the mothers of June Tang and Tong Chong Sze.

God, in your mercy
hear our prayer

Triune God, who we meet in community

Thank you for our Kowloon Union Church family, the Christian community in Hong Kong and throughout the world.  Help us build each other up.

God, in your mercy
hear our prayer

For the Ecumenical Prayer Cycle

We lift in prayer the churches and people of all faiths in Kenya and Tanzania.

God, in your mercy
hear our prayer

Rejoicing in the fellowship of all your saints, we commend ourselves and the whole creation to your unfailing love.

Amen.

Sunday in Ordinary Time

Almighty God, we gather here at this moment of the day to join our voices and hearts in prayer, lifting requests for ourselves, our loved ones, Your church, our community, and the world. Father, we thank You for Your merciful and loving kindness that has sustained us so far. We remain grateful to have been cleansed of all our iniquities through the blood of Jesus Christ and saved from destruction because of the ultimate plan to be redeemed and made new. Fill us with your joy and wisdom, continue to surround us with your steadfast love, and constantly remind us all that you have commanded us to remain good followers.

Lord, in your mercy, HEAR OUR PRAYERS

Heavenly Father, we admit that at times we feel overwhelmed by our circumstances and rely on our limited understanding. Please forgive us if we ever doubt or lose hope. We rejoice in the peace we share with You through our Lord Jesus Christ. Thank You for opening the door to Your grace and providing us with comfort daily. We trust that nothing is too difficult for You and ask for Your help to overcome our human limitations. Please fulfil Your promises in our lives. Guide us to live fully within that grace and to cling to the hope of Your glory.

Lord, in your mercy, HEAR OUR PRAYERS.

We believe trials help us grow in perseverance, shape our character, and nurture hope. Lord, when we feel weak, fill us with Your love through the Holy Spirit. Remind us daily of Your presence so we face challenges with patience and hope. Give us the courage to step out of our comfort zones, share Your kingdom's good news, and positively impact those around us.

Lord, in your mercy, HEAR OUR PRAYERS.

God of provision, we ask for Your guidance in opening doors for everyone seeking in our community. Fill the hearts of seekers with hope and lift their spirits as they walk the challenging paths. Provide for their needs with Your generous blessings. We keep the homeless and those going through tough times in our thoughts and prayers, asking that they find safety and peace. Inspire those with abundance to reach out a helping hand and offer support that truly makes a difference. Help us all to be vessels of kindness and love.

Lord, in your mercy, HEAR OUR PRAYERS.

Merciful and compassionate God, we lift our hearts to You, remembering those who are vulnerable and unwell. We recognise the efforts and care of the medical professionals. We humbly ask that Your healing touch be upon the vulnerable and the unwell. We trust in Your power and seek Your mercy during this difficult time in their lives.

Lord, in your mercy, HEAR OUR PRAYERS.

Lord of Peace, we pray for nations affected by conflict, asking for softened hearts, reconciliation, and divine guidance for their leaders. Grant them wisdom, integrity, and justice, and fill their hearts with compassion and a desire for peace. We also pray for Nigerian children detained by terrorists. Loving Father, we trust in their eventual freedom and well-being.

Lord, in your mercy, HEAR OUR PRAYERS.

In the ecumenical prayer cycle, we remember people of all faiths worldwide. Please strengthen their faith and help their steadfastness and endurance in the face of adversity. Father, transform the church worldwide into a vessel of renewal. Let the zeal of the Lord keep igniting the hearts of believers everywhere, empowering them to claim more territories for Christ.

Lord, in your mercy, HEAR OUR PRAYERS.

The Alpha and Omega, we commit the new week into Your able hands. Please give us enough strength to overcome our flaws. Guide us to be a blessing to everyone around us, sharing Your peace and love. Help us live out Your teachings in everything we do.

O Lord, we humbly request that all our supplications be mercifully answered in Jesus' name. Amen.

Let's say the Lord's Prayer together.

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your name, Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven Give us today our daily bread, forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen

Sunday in Ordinary Time

Creator of all, Omnipresent, Omnipotent, and Omniscient, the beginning and the end, the one whose steadfast love and faithful care endure to all generations. We deeply cherish You because You hold the entire world in Your caring hands. Thank You, Father, for being the most faithful watchman who never sleeps nor slumbers, always watching over us. Loving God, we treasure You for all You have done in our lives, especially Your everlasting, caring love for all Your creatures. With grateful hearts, we joyfully say, thank You, Lord. Please bless and protect each of us as we seek refuge in You.

Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayers.

O Lord, Your word serves as a comforting lamp to our feet and a guiding light throughout our Christian life. We sincerely desire a deeper love for Your scriptures and a renewal through the Holy Spirit. Open our eyes to the truths in Your Commandments and help us meditate on Your word daily, allowing it to shape our thoughts and desires. May Your word continue to guide and transform us into Christ’s likeness. In our busy lives, it’s easy to overlook the importance of Your word and its power. Renew in us a passionate desire to study and live by Your truths, making Your word our unwavering guide and authority. Show us how to share our faith genuinely, shining Your light brightly. God, rekindle our passion to share the good news, reach the lost, and proclaim Your gospel with love.

Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayers.

King of Kings, we thank You for this wonderful gathering place at Kowloon Union Church and for the privilege of being part of Christ's body. Your word reminds us that, like a body with many parts, we are all connected and care for each other. Please teach us how to love and support one another, strengthening our unity through Your presence. Help us eliminate division and pride from our fellowship and help us to see the value of each member, knowing that no part is insignificant. Fill us with Your Spirit so we can use our diverse gifts to uplift, serve, and honour Your name. Guide us to keep our focus on our shared faith in Jesus Christ, which unites and binds us together.

Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayers.

On this special Pentecost memory, we joyfully honour the Holy Spirit and the peace only Christ provides, a peace beyond all understanding. May this peace gently open our hearts to Your Spirit, allowing it to grow within our church and within each of us. Strengthen us to remain united in love and kindness. Fill us with Your joy, peace, and the comforting presence of the Holy Spirit. We acknowledge that without the gift of the Holy Spirit, we may exist physically but spiritually empty. The scripture reminds us of the wonderful fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control. Manifestation of these fruits is a sign of Your work in us and reassures us that we are truly becoming followers of Christ. We humbly ask that these fruits develop within us daily so we can genuinely reflect Your divine nature. Lord, guide our thoughts, words, and actions, transforming us so our lives shine with love and grace, inspiring others to seek You. We pray that Pentecost remains a living experience, and not just a distant memory.

Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayers.

Compassionate God, You are a loving source of healing and renewal. We lift up those facing health difficulties and pray for Your divine touch to bring healing and
wholeness. May Your Spirit provide comfort, peace, and renewal to the hurting. We trust in Your power to heal and restore complete well-being to body, soul, and spirit. May Your gentle touch bring relief and hope to help those in need.

Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayers.

In the ecumenical prayer cycle, we earnestly pray for the unwavering dedication of individuals and churches of all faiths around the world. May their efforts honour You and motivate everyone to draw strength in any circumstance and stay faithful to their Christian duties according to Your will. We ask Your Spirit to keep uniting believers from diverse backgrounds and to inspire love and peace.
O Lord, we conclude with humble hearts that all our prayer requests today are mercifully answered in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

 Prayer of Intercession

3 May 2026

Prepared by Ronald Chui

Sunday in Ordinary Time

Let us unite our hearts in prayer, bringing before God the concerns of our world, our community, and our congregation.

God of truth and comfort, we pray for the public inquiry into the tragic fire at Wang Fuk Court. May the hearings uncover the truth about what took place and the causes that led to such heartbreaking loss. Bring consolation to every family still grieving the death of their loved ones. Wipe away their tears and surround them with your gentleness. We also ask for your protection over those who are now returning to their homes to search for belongings. Keep them safe in the damaged buildings, and help them recover precious items that carry deep memories and meaning for their families.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God of wisdom and justice, we thank you for the visit of King Charles III to the United States. We are grateful for his clear words on the value of democracy, the importance of the rule of law, and the need for proper checks and balances on those who hold power. May these reminders prompt reflection among the leaders. Help them return to the foundational principles of democracy with renewed and faithful commitment, so that power given by the people is exercised with humility and care for the common good.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Prince of Peace, we lift before you the nuclear deal between the United States and Iran. We pray that the talks surrounding the nuclear issue will bear good fruit and lead to a just and lasting resolution. May this bring genuine peace to a region long troubled by warfare and conflict. Open pathways for humanitarian aid and essential supplies to reach those who have been displaced or suffered greatly because of war. Restore hope to the weary and comfort every soul that has experienced fear and suffering.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We also pray for Hong Kong, as the government begins public consultation on its first five-year plan since the handover. Guide every step of this important process. May the voices of ordinary citizens be clearly heard. We ask that the final plan will not merely serve interests from the mainland, but will respond with shrewdness and sincerity to the needs and concerns of the Hong Kong people.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God of all nations, we remember the churches and peoples of Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. In lands where faith is often tested, strengthen your followers with courage and hope. Protect them in the midst of

hardship, and let their lives shine as quiet witnesses to your love. Grant wisdom to their leaders and peace between communities.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Gracious Lord, we bring before you our brothers and sisters in this congregation who are facing health struggles. We especially remember Dr. Vivian Lee, Kevin Ng, Jeanette Lee, Hend, Ng Kam Lee, Raymond Lau, Joy Babasa, Rose Chue, Doris Lee, Mercy Matilda, Esther Bangcawayan, Jen Pang, and Uncle Tong. Touch their bodies with your restoring power. Give them patience and strength for each new day. We also hold in your love our senior members and friends, including Revd. Kwok, Mrs. Samuel, and the mothers of Paul Lucas, June Tang, and Tong. Comfort those who are unwell, and sustain with your grace all who care for their family members at home or in care facilities. May everyone feel supported by your presence.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Sunday in Ordinary Time

Eternal Rock of Ages, we joyfully lift up our hearts to You in one accord and with gratitude. Thank You for the gift of life, Your everlasting care for us, the breath we breathe, Your infinite mercies, and Your amazing grace that sustains us. We gather here today in unity, filled with heartfelt praise from sincere and grateful hearts. We pray that every heart be lifted beyond worries and fears.
Dear Lord, we humbly come before You, acknowledging our shortcomings towards You and Your creations. We trust in Your forgiveness, mercy, and eternal patience. Please inspire us to seek You more and guide us to become better people who continue to adhere to Your commandments.

Lord, in your mercy, HEAR OUR PRAYERS

God of creation, thank You for new beginnings through Your begotten Son, Jesus Christ, after the discord and disobedience in the Garden of Eden. Teach us from past mistakes and shield our hearts from negativity and sin. Just as You placed man in the Garden of Eden with a purpose, we seek to understand and fulfill Your divine plan for our lives. Help us follow Your paths diligently and discover our gifts and callings so we can serve You and others with joy and love. Heavenly Father, help us focus more on the bright future and glory ahead rather than our current labour. Strengthen our faith and fill our hearts with the comfort of Your promise that this temporary decay will be restored to glory. Thank You, God, for Your constant willingness to carry our worries and grant all that labour spiritual peace and soul-refreshing comfort. Guide us to prioritize seeking Your kingdom and righteousness, trusting that all we need will be provided.

Lord, in your mercy, HEAR OUR PRAYERS

Hebrews 13:3 urged us to remember those in prison as if we were experiencing their hardship with them, encouraging empathy and active prayer. Merciful God, we compassionately hold in our hearts all individuals worldwide who are deprived of liberty, whether rightly or wrongly. We pray that they sense Your love, presence, and Spirit surrounding them. Fill their hearts with peace and hope, inspiring a deeper trust in You.We remember all those facing physical and spiritual bondages like addiction, depression, harmful habits, fear, and spiritual blindness. We pray that Your light illuminates their minds and hearts, guiding them from the wilderness into a land of promise, restoration, salvation, and peace.

Lord, in your mercy, HEAR OUR PRAYERS

Healing God, the Bible recounts numerous miraculous healings, and we firmly believe that You are still healing today. We trust that there is no illness You cannot cure, especially given how You raised some people from the dead as recorded in Scripture.
Jehovah-Rapha, the healer and giver of life, we remember our fellow believers struggling with health problems. We seek Your comforting presence and divine healing to support, uplift their spirits, and strengthen their trust in Your compassionate care. We also remember our loved ones who are facing their own challenges. Please surround them with Your support, intervene where needed, and fill them with hope and comfort.

Lord, in your mercy, HEAR OUR PRAYERS

In 1 Timothy 2:1-4, the Apostle Paul exhorted Christians to pray for those in positions of authority.
We seek Your wisdom and guidance for world leaders, helping them make decisions that benefit their people. We pray for the world at this time. O Lord, transform division into unity, misunderstanding into understanding, injustice into fairness, disaster into blessings, and unrest into peace. We also lift up countries experiencing severe conflicts, including the ongoing tensions between the US, Israel, and Iran, as well as the one between Ukraine and Russia. We earnestly pray for Your peace to come to these regions and to all places that need it.
We hope for a world where all forms of evil, conflict, and hatred are overcome, replaced by lasting love that is patient, kind, and selfless. Lord, we also lift up Hong Kong in our prayers, asking for wisdom and understanding to be granted to the city's leaders so they can continue to lead with care and dedication.

Lord, in your mercy, HEAR OUR PRAYERS

In 1 Samuel 1:13, Hannah prayed silently. She was comforted by God's blessing and conceived a Son named Samuel.
Brothers and Sisters, in a moment of silence, let us share our heartfelt request to God.
O Lord, we ask You to pour out Your spirit of mercy and grace during our times of greatest need.

Lord, in your mercy, HEAR OUR PRAYERS

Ephesians 3:14–19 reminds us of the joy of being strengthened by the Holy Spirit’s divine power. This strength encourages us to face challenges bravely, to go beyond just outward actions, and to truly experience the incredible love of Christ.
O Lord, we remember KUC at this moment. We humbly ask for your continued inspiration to guide everyone here in discovering hope, love, and a genuine sense of belonging. May this place become a warm and welcoming space where everyone is strengthened by the Holy Spirit's divine power, feels safe to grow in love and hope, and deepens their relationship with You as they seek more of You.
In the ecumenical prayer cycle, we remember the churches experiencing various forms of persecution and oppression that challenge their faithfulness. We pray that You will have Your way and revive the faith of Your followers. Touch the hearts of the leaders in these nations to foster greater tolerance and unity, bringing glory and honour to You.

Lord, in your mercy, HEAR OUR PRAYERS

O Lord, we pray that You mercifully answer all our supplications in the name of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Let us say the Lord’s Prayer in unison.

Amen

Prayer of Intercession

19 April 2026

Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank you for this beautiful morning that testifies to your creativity and power. We thank you for this time when we can come together as a body to love and support one another. And we thank you for Pastor Maggie’s word this morning and the encouragement it gives us to be attentive to your presence in our world so that we may break bread with you for the long road ahead.

But it is often so difficult to persevere, Lord. The burdens of life are heavy, and they make it seem like the next village is impossibly far off; the troubles of this world are so overwhelming and all-consuming that we struggle to feel your presence or even recognise your face, though you are walking beside us. So we come before you this morning to seek your presence in times that obscure it, and to ask for your grace and mercy to heal the pain of this world.

God of Peace, we pray urgently for your intervention in the wars raging around the world this morning that are devouring your children, including the US and Israeli wars in Palestine, Lebanon, and Iran, the Russian war in Ukraine, and the ongoing conflict in Sudan. These wars have led to the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians, famine, and fuel shortages that have impacted much of the world, demonstrating to the destructive pride of the powerful. Dear Father, we pray for your intercession and protection for the vulnerable from the fire, smoke, and want caused by these wars. We also pray for you to inspire those who are not under threat to act with courage, integrity, and mercy, to support those in danger, like the donors who have recently pledged 1.3 billion euros in aid for the people of Sudan this week in Berlin. And we pray for a swift and lasting peace over the world so that all may thrive and flourish as You intend. Lord, in your mercy, hear your prayer.

Loving Father, we also mourn with those mourning in Turkiye following two separate school shootings in the span of a few days. Between the two attacks, 10 people were killed and many others seriously injured. As authorities seek to understand the motivations of the two teenagers who carried out these attacks, we pray for your comfort over the families grieving the loss of loved ones and over the survivors scarred by the trauma of their experiences. Lord, we also remember young people around the world, including here in our city, struggling with stress and mental health needs. We pray that you would place in their lives voices of care and wisdom to speak love and truth into their lives. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God of Salvation, we remember today the plight of refugees around the world fleeing war, terror, persecution, and discrimination after a ship carrying 250 Rohingya and Bangladeshis capsized during its journey to Malaysia. So far, only 9 people have been rescued, and many of the missing are children. Father, we pray for the deliverance of those still missing, and the comforting embrace of your grace for those who will not be found. We also pray for those who will be forced to make similar journeys as they seek safety from violence. We ask that you would make the way safe for them, and that you would soften the hearts of people living in safer nations to welcome them with care. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God of Justice, as more and more evidence is being revealed in the Tai Po fire case, our hearts ache for the families and survivors who are living through this nightmare daily as we listen to case stories of loss, neglect and blame. We pray for the hundreds of overseas workers who lost everything in the fire, too, some whose stories are not heard for fear of rejection and of their jobs being terminated. We continue to pray for all who lost their lives, and remember the love they showed the world as they remained in that inferno with those they cared for. Living God, have mercy on everyone here in Hong Kong and those who have returned to their homeland. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Holy Father, we remember today in the ecumenical prayer cycle the churches and people of Belarus, Moldova, Russia, and Ukraine. We thank you for the remarkable beauty of these lands, the rich cultural heritages and diversity and the courage of people in these countries as they advocate for greater transparency in government and for peace amid Russia’s war against Ukraine. We pray that you would empower voices for accountability and justice in these countries so that peace and justice may reign. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Great Healer, we also remember those among our body who are struggling with pain, illness, financial hardship, isolation, discrimination, and other burdens visible or invisible. We specifically pray for Kevin Ng, Jeanette Lee, Hend, Ng Kam Lee, Raymond Lau, Joy Babasa, Rose Chue, Doris Lee, Mercy Matilda, Esther Bangcawayan, Jen Pang and Tong Chong Sze who are facing health challenges and need to strengthen their bodies. We also continue to remember our senior members and friends: Revd. Kwok, Mrs Samuel, and the mothers of Paul Lucas, June Tang, and Tong Chong Sze. May God heal the sick and give strength to those caring for loved ones at home and in care facilities. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Holy Friend, we pray these things knowing that you walk beside us and journey with us. As Pastor Maggie reminded us, you seek us. Give us the strength, courage, and discernment to hear you knocking on the door, even when it is difficult, and to receive that clarity to follow your call for our lives. And commend to our hearts the words you taught us to pray, which we say now together in whichever language we are most comfortable: (The Lord Prayer)

Prayer of Intercession

12 April 2026

Prepared by Penina Oredsson

Sunday in Ordinary Time

Prayers of the People – Second Sunday of Easter

Leader:

In the peace of the risen Christ, let us bring our prayers to God, who hears us and will answer. When I read “Lord in your mercy”, please respond “Hear Our Prayer”

Risen Lord Jesus,

On this second Sunday of Easter, you came to your disciples when the doors were locked for fear.

You stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”

You showed them your hands and your side.

And when Thomas doubted, you did not send him away. You invited him to touch and believe.

We thank you that you are not angry with our doubts.
We thank you that you come to us even when we hide in fear.

With the words of Psalm 16, we say to you:

You are our Lord; apart from you we have no good thing.
You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy.

You have given us a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
Though we have not seen you, we love you.
Though we do not see you now, we believe in you.

Lord, in your mercy

Response: Hear our prayer.

We pray for the world you love so much.
Easter has come, but the world is still full of war and tears.

We pray for the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran:

Right now there is a weak ceasefire. We do not know if it will last.
We pray for the leaders on every side.
Give them patience instead of pride. Give them wisdom instead of revenge.
Protect the people who live in fear of bombs and missiles — in Iran, in Israel, in Lebanon, in Gaza.
Let the ceasefire hold. Let it become a real peace. Let children sleep without nightmares.

We pray for Israel’s attacks on Lebanon and Gaza:

We remember the families who have lost their homes.
We remember the mothers who have buried their children.
We pray for the people of Gaza who hunger and thirst and grieve.
We pray for the people of Lebanon who are caught in a fight not of their making.
Lord, have mercy.
Let your words, “Peace be with you,” become more than a greeting. Let them become a fact on the ground.

We pray for the war in Ukraine:

We pray for soldiers in muddy trenches, for cities without electricity, for refugees far from home.
Bring an end to the killing. Raise up peacemakers.

We also pray for the war in Sudan:

Millions have fled. Hunger is everywhere. The strong hurt the weak.
Lord, you fed your people with manna in the wilderness. Feed Sudan now.

And we pray for the civil war in Myanmar:

Villages burned. People hiding in the jungle. Young people fighting with little hope. Send your Spirit of justice and healing.

Lord, in your mercy

Response: Hear our prayer.

We pray for our own church family here at KUC.

Thank you for every person who gathers in this place, and for those who worship with us online.

We pray for our work with asylum seekers:

Bless those who come to us afraid and tired.
Bless those who fill out forms, make phone calls, find lawyers, and sit beside people who have lost everything.
Give them patience when the system is slow. Give them hope when the news is bad.

We also pray for those in our parish who are sick, in body, mind, or spirit.

Give them strength for each new day.
Send them your peace when they are afraid, and your hope when they are tired.
Bless the hands that care for them — doctors, nurses, family, and friends.
Let them feel the same risen presence that Thomas felt when you showed him your hands and your side.

We pray for our regular events and activities:

We thank you for the small things — coffee poured, doors opened, chairs set up, prayers whispered.

Bless the Bible study groups, the fellowship lunches, the children’s activities, and the care for our elders. For the Tie and Dye group “Colours of Hope”, that they will be able to advance their activities and find a market for their products.
Nothing done in your name is wasted.

For our leaders and volunteers:

Give them rest when they are tired, wisdom when they are confused, and joy when they are weary.

Lord, in your mercy

Response: Hear our prayer.

We lift up Hong Kong, our home.

We pray for the San Tin Highway chain collision:

A minibus driver was killed. Seventeen people were injured in two separate accidents on Wednesday night.

The first crash involved five vehicles. Then a second crash nearby with three vehicles. We pray for the driver’s family — their sudden loss, their shock, their grief.
We pray for the seventeen injured — for every broken bone, every wound, every nightmare replaying the crash.
Heal them, Lord. Comfort them. Make our roads safer.

We continue to pray f
or the Wang Fuk Court fire inquiry:

One hundred and sixty-eight people died in that fire.
The public hearings have shown terrible things:
Fire safety checks were not done before eighty-five shutdown notices were issued.
A plumber testified that the water tanks were empty one month before the fire.
Empty water tanks. No water for the hoses. No water for the sprinklers.
Lord, we cannot bring back the dead. But we pray for the truth to come out fully.
We pray for the families — they have waited so long for justice.
We pray for the investigators and the inquiry panel — give them courage to name what went wrong.
We pray that such a disaster will never happen again.

So we pray for all who grieve in Hong Kong:

Especially the driver’s family. The fire victims’ families. The people who feel the city has become harder and colder.
Remind them that you are near to the brokenhearted.
Show them the path of life, even in the valley of the shadow.

Lord, in your mercy

Response: Hear our prayer.

Lord Jesus, you said, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
That is us. We have not seen your face. We have not touched your hands. But we believe that you are alive.
We believe that you are making all things new — even this broken world, even these broken hearts.

Hold our doubts gently. Strengthen our weak faith.
And when the door seems locked, come and stand among us.
Breathe on us your Holy Spirit. Say to us again: Peace be with you.

Until that day when every tear is wiped away and every war ends, keep us in the living hope of the resurrection.

We ask all this in your risen name, Jesus Christ our Lord.

In your name we pray

AMEN

And now, as our Risen Lord taught us, let us pray together in the words he gave us.

Let us all say the Lord’s Prayer in English or your own preferred language.

Our Father, ....

The Spirit prays in every language. Let each of us now offer our own silent prayers to God, each in the language of our heart.

God of all tongues and all nations, you have heard every prayer spoken here this morning — in English,in Cantonese, in Mandarin, and in every other tongue. Receive them as one offering. And let us live as people of the resurrection. Amen.
