Prayer of Intercession

Gracious God, Source of all wisdom and light,
we gather this morning with thankful hearts.
You are the One who opens minds, shapes character, and plants seeds of truth that grow into lifelong discipleship.
We praise You for the gift of learning: in classrooms and lecture halls, in homes and conversations, in the pages of Scripture and in the everyday moments. As a new school year begins, we place ourselves and all who teach and learn under Your care. Fill us with curiosity that seeks truth, compassion that sees every person as Your child, and courage that acts with integrity.
May this season of learning draw us closer to You and to one another.
Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
God of truth and discovery,
We pray for students of every age. Those stepping into new classrooms with excitement, those carrying quiet anxiety or heavy pressure, and those whose paths feel uncertain. Grant them resilience, healthy friendships, and the freedom to grow at their own pace.
We especially lift up the children of Kowloon Union Church. Watch over them in this new school year and in their Sunday school classes. Help them grow in wisdom, kindness, and faith. May they know they are deeply loved by You and by this church family, and may they feel safe, encouraged, and joyful as they learn.
we thank You for every teacher who pours energy and patience into the lives of people. Strengthen them when the work feels heavy. Renew their joy when progress seems slow. Surround them with communities that value their calling.
We hold before You parents and caregivers. Give them wisdom in daily decisions, patience in difficult moments, and the assurance that they do not walk alone.
Bless the bookstores, libraries, and learning spaces that place knowledge within reach of many. May these places continue to welcome every seeker of truth, and nurture a love of learning.
Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Healing God,
we pray for the physical and mental health of everyone, especially teachers, caregivers and students as they begin this new school year. Grant them strong bodies, rested minds, and the energy they need for the days ahead. Where stress, anxiety, or exhaustion have taken hold, bring relief and restoration.
We lift up those who provide therapies, counselling, and specialised support for people in need. Give these professionals wisdom, patience, and the resources to care well for those who come to them. May every school community become a place where wellbeing is valued as highly as academic growth. May all people who need such support find timely help, compassionate care, and the strength to walk through difficult seasons.
Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
God of justice and compassion,
Guide those who shape education policy in our city and beyond, that fairness, inclusion, and genuine opportunity may mark every learning space. Especially we ask for access to quality education for all who yearn to learn, regardless of background, ability, or circumstance. Hold close the students with special educational needs. Grant them the support, understanding, and environments in which they can flourish and know their worth.
We also hold before You Joshua Wong and all those still affected by the Hong Kong 47 case.
Surround them and their families with Your steady presence. Grant them strength for each day. We also remember the communities still living with the aftershock of the Wang Fuk Court tragedy. Comfort those who mourn. Support those rebuilding their lives and homes.
Guide the lawmakers, judges, and all who take part in legal processes. Bring fairness, mercy and integrity to every decision. Grant us wisdom and clarity of mind to discern what is right and wrong in Your eyes, and the courage to walk in that truth. Guide all efforts toward healing, accountability, and lasting hope.
Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Creator of all living things,
You made every dog, every animal, and called Your creation good. We affirm that each one is a creature of Your making, worthy of love and care.
The challenges we face around certain breeds are not the fault of the animals themselves, but arise from human choices, fears, and failures of responsibility.
Give us wisdom as a community to live well alongside animals with both safety and deep compassion. Protect them from abandonment, neglect, or harsh treatment. Soften hearts that are fearful.
Help us become people who treat every living creature with the dignity You intend, and who take seriously the privilege of sharing our homes with them.
Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
God of all nations,
this week we join the worldwide Church in praying for the people and churches of Benin, Ivory Coast, and Togo.
We give thanks for the beauty of these lands, for the spiritual vitality of Christian communities, and for those who work for peace, education, and human dignity among economic and social challenges.
Strengthen believers who face hardship. Let the light of the Gospel shine through acts of service, unity across traditions, and faithful witness in daily life.
Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Gracious God, Source of all wisdom and light,
Faithful God,
as we step into this new week, root Your Word deeply in us. Whether we are students or teachers, parents or caregivers, young or old, help us remain teachable and ready to grow.
We pray in the name of Jesus.
